Tour of the Island of Ischia by BUS

Excursion

Description

Exploring the island of Ischia aboard a comfortable bus is the ideal way to immerse yourself in its natural, historical, and cultural beauty. With the “Ischia Island Bus Tour,” you’ll have the opportunity to travel through distinctive landscapes, admire picturesque villages, and discover the traces left over the centuries by millennia-old civilizations and traditions.

The tour follows a circular route that passes through all six municipalities on the island, each with its own unique characteristics. Along the way, scenic stops and points of interest allow you to appreciate the variety of Ischia’s landscapes, from the blue of the sea to the green of the terraced hills.

The journey begins in Ischia Porto, the beating heart of the island, famous for its lively shopping district, boutiques, bars, and picturesque natural harbor—once a volcanic crater. From here, the journey continues to Casamicciola Terme, renowned for its ancient thermal springs—known even to the Romans—and Lacco Ameno, where the famous “Fungo,” a striking mushroom-shaped tuff rock, dominates the seascape. This town is also home to important archaeological sites, such as the Villa Arbusto Museum, which houses the Nestor Cup, one of the oldest examples of Greek writing.

The route continues toward Forio, the island’s largest municipality, famous for its Saracen towers—built to defend against pirate raids—and for its enchanting beaches, such as Chiaia and Citara, where the famous Poseidon Gardens, the island’s largest thermal park, are located. Along the way, you can admire the splendid Chiesa del Soccorso, with its panoramic location overlooking the sea, and the charming Mortella Gardens, a botanical oasis of rare beauty.

The excursion then includes a longer stop in the village of Sant’Angelo, an ancient fishing village transformed into an exclusive tourist destination. Here you can stroll through the flower-lined alleys, admire the pastel-colored houses, and relax in the picturesque little square overlooking the sea. The village is also the starting point for the famous Fumarole, a beach where the sand radiates heat due to underground volcanic activity.

After Sant’Angelo, the route climbs toward Serrara Fontana and Barano, where the landscape changes dramatically: terraced vineyards and lush forests dominate the scene. Here stands Mount Epomeo, the island’s highest peak (789 meters), offering an extraordinary view of the entire Gulf of Naples. Serrara Fontana is the agricultural heart of the island, known for its local specialties, including Ischian-style rabbit, a dish that symbolizes the local culinary tradition.

Finally, the tour concludes with a return to Ischia Porto, passing through Barano, famous for Maronti Beach—the longest on the island—and for the picturesque Cavascura thermal baths, carved into the rock and still fed by natural springs today.

The “Ischia Island Bus Tour” is an unmissable experience for anyone who wants to discover the island’s many facets, including its history, nature, and authentic traditions.
